3. Usage
General usage is straight forward. You can browse
directories with easy. Select the type of package and open a location.
4. Modes
4.1 Slackware Mode
In this mode you can browse all file types - SO
BE VERY CAREFULL. This mode is for those who owns a Slackware distribution
or for those who have already Mounted a Slackware
Virtual Directory in the $HOME directory ( $HOME/.kde/share/apps/KPackViewert/Virtual_Slack
)
Using KPV in Slack Mode with other files may
have unpredictable results. Remember that this is a simple program. But
some error checking is done indeed.
In this mode the browse dialog opens the /var/adm/packages
directory automatically. But the user is free to browse any directory.
4.2 RPM Mode
RPM mode allows the user to browse .rpm packages.
Unfortunately rpm -qip does not always produce information output leading
to a lack of package information.
This problem was solved using a brute force method
that "query" the package for each item- slower but works!
4.3 Debian Mode
Debian mode allows the user to browse .deb packages.
4.4 TarGZip Mode
TarGZip mode allows the user to browse .tar.gzip
and .tgz packages. This is the standard not only for Slackware distribution
but tis the standard for many Unix systems so it will be usefull for many
ones.
4.5 Zip Mode
Zip mode allows the user to browse .zip packages.
It's very used in WinWorld so I am shure it's usefull.
4.6 BZip2 Mode
BZip2 mode allows the user to browse .bz2 packages.
It's superior results will lead to more and more packs of this type - I
guess.
4.7 Lha Mode
Lha mode allows the user to browse .lha and .lzh
packages. It's not widely used but it's here for completion reasons.
