You can put this system on a 1.44mb dos formatted floppy or cdrom disk, and or boot it from your dos/win9x system. It's more or less designed for non-networked, stand-alone, home pc hard drive boot/rescue/backup/maintenance! It has large file support, you can use all the programs with files larger than 2GB! You can only have files larger than 2GB on a ext2/3, reiserfs, jfs, or xfs partition. The programs e2fsck, mke2fs, and tune2fs have ext3 filesystem support. It includes the ext2/3, reiserfs, and ntfs resizing programs (ext2resize, resize_reiserfs, ntfsresize). It also includes the `mc' file manager! It has support for these filesystems. ext2 iso9660 msdos ntfs reiserfs ufs vfat The kernel is version 2.4.21, it just has support for IDE hard drives. You need at least 8mb of RAM and a 486dx CPU to boot it. It's a zip archive you can extract it like this. C:\ pkunzip -d ramf-119.zip To create a rescue floppy under dos/win! Put a DOS formatted `format a:' floppy in the drive. C:\ramflop> mkrescue To boot the linux system from a dos/win9x system! C:\ramflop> ramlinux Use unzip under linux to extract it! # unzip -L ramf-119.zip To create a rescue floppy under linux! ramflop# sh mkrescue.sh -fd zdisk-2.15.tar.gz at the site below has a similar rescue system, except it has less programs and you supply the kernel, it then creates a boot/rescue floppy or cdrom disk with the kernel of your choice.
