The early_printk patch is intended to provide rudimentary (and
hopefully robust) console pseudodrivers which may be registered
and successfully used by printk() much earlier in the boot sequence
than printk output is normally available. It is intended as a debugging
aid and perhaps also a means of pursuing the general goal of earlier
console output.
